Google Search Ads

For more general information on data collection in Redbird, check out: Getting Started With Data Collection

This guide explains how to set up access and collect data from the Google Ads platform. Advertisers can serve their ads on properties like YouTube and Google Search using Google Ads, and the API provides a programmatic way to pull data.

If you cannot see the Google Search Ads collection app in the left-side panel on the workflow canvas, refer to: Enabling Collection Apps Guide

Creating a Collection

  1. Double-click on the node to enter configuration mode

  2. Click the pencil icon at the top to name your collection

  3. Select the credentials that you need to pull data from under the Credentials drop-down.

    1. If needed, you can add, edit, or delete logins during this step by selecting the gear icon. To add a new login, click Add New Login
    2. Name your credentials for easy reference
    3. Click Login with Google and proceed through the Google OAuth steps.
    4. Once you've been redirected back to Redbird, select your newly created credentials from the Credentials dropdown.
  4. Move your relevant Manager and Sub-Manager account from left to right in the Manager(s) section. To learn more about Manager and Sub-Manager accounts, click here

  5. Move the customer account that you want to access from left to right in the Customers section. Only one customer can be selected at once

  6. Select your report type. This report type should correspond to the level of granularity or type of data you'd like to pull.
e.g. A configuration with the Campaign report type can pull Campaign level data, but not Ad Group level data

  7. Under Metrics, Segments, and Dimensions, the available options for the selected view will populate in the Available box. Select the options you need and click the top arrow to move it to the Selected box.\

    🚧

    Important:

Certain Metrics, Segments, and Dimensions are incompatible with one another. As you are making your selections, fields will become un-selectable in the Available boxes. If you select 2 or more incompatible fields at once, you will be prompted to select 1 at a time.

  8. Under Custom Columns, the custom columns available to your Manager account will be visible. Only valid custom columns will be able to be moved from left to right.

  9. Validate your report by clicking on the Validate button at the top of the configuration screen. This should always be your final step to ensure that your report does not have any errors. If the resulting prompt does not say "Validation Successful!", you will need to remove incompatible fields and validate again.

  10. Date Period allows you to select between a Manual date range or an Automated date range.

    1. Manual: At run time, users will be prompted to provide a start and end date for the collection to run.
    2. Automated: Users can define a dynamic date range to include in their configuration by selecting a timeperiod (days, weeks, or months) and initiating the configuration. Since the user selects a time period instead of a specific start and end date, the dates used to run the configuration will change based on the timing of each run
    3. Lookback Window: Users can define a lookback window that refreshes the data for a specified time frame. If set to append, the existing data for that time frame is deleted and recollected. If set to replace, all historical data is deleted and replaced by the data in the specified range.
  11. Initial Data Load allows you to upload historical data in bulk as a one-off in the event that you have the data saved on your computer. You can upload your data as a CSV file with no leading/trailing rows or columns and Redbird will run future data collections using the configuration that you set up in previous steps.
